actually, it was 2001 which was a direct response to the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania (originally, Flight 93 was originally going to crash into the white house, but it never happened because various passengers including Todd Beamer chose to fight back against the hijackers). In addition to the removal of both blood and gore, red lights were changed to green, and Eddie (who was going to be deranged maniac who was to use bombs to create his own brand of chaos) was replaced with Jack the Clown.
