“Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw,” Universal Studios Florida, 2007.
On this date in 2007, “Dead Silence” premiered in theaters. The film revolves around the murder and vengeful return of a famous ventriloquist named Mary Shaw.
Halloween Horror Nights 17 featured a house called “Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw.” The house was notable for its exceptional special effects and unique audio tricks.
In the film, victims would notice the world going silent around them immediately before Mary Shaw would attack. In the house, background noise and music would occasionally fade to silence, followed by jump-scares by costumed Mary Shaw characters.
“Dead Silence” was later referened in HHN XX’s 20 Years of Fear scarezone (Mary Shaw on rollerblades) and VIP Lounge (Shaw’s Billy doll), and HHN 21’s “Winter’s Night: The Haunting of Hawthorn Cemetery” (Shaw’s tombstone in the finale).
