Genealogies of the “Legions of Horror,” Universal Studios Florida, 2012.
On the surface, the HHN Icons have very little in common with each other. While they share similar characteristics–a love of carnage, homicidal tendencies, fondness for dark clothing–their individual backstories don’t typically overlap. In 2012, however, it was revealed that these evildoers actually share ancestors, and some are even familially related!
Halloween Horror Nights 22 featured an alternate-reality game (ARG) called “Legendary Truth: Legions of Horror.” At the onset of the game, players joined one of six different Legions: Maschorian, Morphan, Strengoit, Cerebin, Kerezan or Baccanoid. Each Legion promoted its own individual set of characteristics and traits, and players were able to interact and bond with other members of their group.
As the game unfolded, players learned more about their Legion’s history, including date and location of origination. At the culmination of the game, genealogical diagrams for each Legion were released. Upon closer inspection, these diagrams reveal the ancestral origins of horror’s (and Halloween Horror Nights’) most famous monsters:
- Maschorian: Eddie, The Terra Queen, The Bride (of Frankenstein), The Storyteller
- Morphan: Jack the Clown, Cindy Caine, Chucky
- Strengoit: Dracula, The Director, Norman Bates
- Cerebin: The Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon
- Kerezan: Frankenstein’s Monster, The Mummy, The Usher
- Baccanoid: Dr. Mary Agana (Bloody Mary), The Caretaker
