30 Days of Halloween Horror Nights: Which Scarezone Had the Best Soundtrack?
From what I can gather, a lot of people enjoyed Halloween Horror Nights 21’s “7” scarezone for its music (and, from our ‘Least Favorite Scarezone’ question, maybe it was enjoyed ONLY for the music). Yes, it was two versions of the same song (“The Beautiful People,” covered by Scala & Kolacny Brothers earlier in the evening and then later at night performed by its originators, Marilyn Manson), but the song and performance selection fit the scarezone perfectly.
That said, my personal favorite scarezone soundtrack of all-time goes to Halloween Horror Nights 18’s “Streets of Blood.” Consisting of, of all things, classical music, this zone’s soundtrack was dominated by Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre.”
Picture the scene: you’re walking through the fog-choked streets of London at the tail-end of the 19th century. Gaslights flicker in the darkness, a red pall cast over what little the eye can see. The fog parts momentarily, revealing the black wood of a funeral hearse, complete with a fresh coffin. A tall, spindly form glides gracefully out of the shadows. As it gets closer, you see the bone-white of its face and its wide, ghastly grin. You turn and run for your life, desperately plunging back into the fog and inky shadows.
Now, imagine that scene again, but with THIS playing in the background. Pretty cool, eh?
